Welcome to Paradise Found Owners web site
Lanzarote
Lanzarote is the eastern-most of the Canary Islands & the last European paradise isles with its mild subtropical climate & diverse dramatic scenery. Lanzarote offers the perfect holiday destination for single, couples or families.
Despite being a volcanic landscape it boasts many beautiful white sandy beaches where the turquoise Atlantic Ocean extends to the horizon & the deep blue skies beyond. The stunning Martian Lunar Landscape of the Parque Nacional de Timanfaya contrasts dramatically with the picturesque white washed villages on the coast.
A Must to Visit
Puerto Calero
The marina of Puerto Calero is to the West of Los Mojones, which was opened in 1990 with many shops, café’s and restaurants and is one of the nicest places to meet on the island. You will also find the ‘Yellow Submarine’ here, which offers you the possibility of visiting the underwater world around Lanzarote Bay, at a depth of 30m, in a 20m submarine with view ports with a diameter of 80cm and your own seat for photo opportunities. This is an unforgettable experience as usually these views are reserved for deep-sea divers only. You will need to book in advance which you can do by visiting the reservation office at the marina and they will explain the current prices & procedure etc.
Timanfaya (Fire Mountain)
In between the mountain chain of Timanfaya, volcanoes extend to the edges of Lanzarote. The area of the Fire Mountains was declared in 1968 as a national park. During the great volcanic eruptions in 1730 to 1736 & 1824, most of the fertile land and several villages were buried under huge Lava masses. Today it is regarded as one of the highlights for a visit. Once you have paid at the gate (mountain entrance) and parked on the mountain (visitor centre) you will be driven around the lunar landscape by coach with an audio historic commentary. At the Café you will be convinced by the old volcanic power left over from the heat of the volcanoes, which only 10cm under the surface reaches 140 degrees centigrade and you will see many experiments performed e.g. water will be poured into a 60cm deep iron pipe and a few moments later a steam fountain shoots up into the sky (photo opportunity). In El Diablo (restaurant) the earth heat is used to cook prepared grill specialities. After the visit try the camel trek that takes you 512m high where you will have a marvellous view over the large volcanic landscape.
Jameos Del Agua & Cueva de los Verdes (Green Caves)
This is a large volcanic cave passage, which was formed by the prehistoric eruptions of the Corona crater, which dominates the landscape in the north of the island. This passage is approx. 10kms long and finishes below sea level. A part of this is accessible to visitors with passageways, terraces & botanical parks with restaurants & bars. Amongst other things there is a theatre with seating for 1,000 persons within the volcanic cavern which is unique. Once entering the caves you will come out into a man made Paradise Island, which is built, within the mountain. You will also see rare ‘Albino Crabs’. Just a short drive away you will be able to visit the ‘green caves’ and take an interesting tour!
Mirador del Rio
The artist Cesar Manrique (who designed most of Lanzarote attractions & features) created Mirador on the northeast tip of the island. On the edge of an almost perpendicular rock face, at a height of approx 500 metres, originate this viewpoint. Depending on the weather conditions it allows fantastic views of the islands La Graciosa, Alegranza & Montana Clara lying off the coast of Lanzarote. Of these three islands only La Graciosa is inhabited.
Sunday Market - Teguise (Old Capital)
Until the middle ages Teguise was the capital of Lanzarote. As with all the other Canarias Islands, the capital cities were situated in the interior in order to better protect it from pirate attacks and capture. On Sunday’s a flea market takes place between 0800 & 1400hrs where the island inhabitants & Moroccan sellers sell their wares. Suggest you take the local bus service here as parking can sometimes be difficult or a long walk away. There is a bus stop on the main avenue that stops every 15 minutes during 0730 & 1200, this will take you direct to the market and return journey back to the same point (NB: the last return bus is at 1330).
Puerto Del Carmen
This area has many shops, bars & restaurants along a vast stretch of promenade with excellent sandy beaches. At the top end of the promenade towards Los Mojones you will also find a new shopping mall. This area is popular with all visitors to the island!
Definitely Worth a visit if you have time
Arrecife
This is Lanzarote’s capital & your airport. This area has all the main shops but do not suggest you drive here, as there is a one way routing around the capital and difficult to navigate! Arrecife shops keep to traditional island opening hours.
Haria
The road from Los Mojones to Haria is a beautiful drive with splendid panoramic views and mountain ranges.
Guinate Tropical Park
Great for children of all ages this park is worth making a detour left on the road from Haria to Mirador. Well laid out large bird park and walk able gardens between man made waterfalls on lagoons with more than 1300 rare & exotic birds. Open daily from 1000 to 1700.
El Grifo region
This is the main wine producing area of the island & here you will find a Wine Museum
La Geria/Uga
These areas can be found on the road to Playa Blanca from Los Mojones. La Geria is also a Vineyard region where many of the local wines are produced. Uga is the centre of dromedary (camel) breeding on the island with white cubic houses to remind you of one of the Moorish areas in North West Africa.
Yaiza
This place is one of the most beautiful and well looked after villages - good restaurants and great for a drive.
El Golfo
West coast of the island where you will find an attraction of El Golfo is a crater, which has formed on the seaward side; this has almost been completely destroyed by the sea. A luminous emerald green lagoon can also be seen here.
Playa Blanca
This is mainly a tourist centre with shops, beaches & bars etc., but with a stunning new modern marina boasting excellent restaurants/coffee shops with sea views it also includes a new shopping mall. 3kms away you will reach Papagayo Beaches which is one of the finest beaches for swimming on the island and where you can catch the ferry to neighbouring island Fuerteventura. (NB: there is a charge to go on the beach as it has a preservation licence)
Guatiza - Jardin de Cactus (Cactus Gardens)
In this park almost 10,000 species of cacti of worldwide origin and café with seating for a restful break.
Orzola
This is a small fishing village north of the island with some great fish restaurants offering sea views and a passenger ferry to La Graciosa. Departure Times 1000 to 1700 & return last ferry 1600.
Famara
On the road from San Bartolome there is a turn off leading to Famara. This fishing village has kept its original form and has a sandy & pebble coastline where often power breakers prevail and therefore ideal for surfing! There are great fish restaurants here. Warning: Strong currents here & do not park on the sand you will get grounded!
